    HBR Consulting is seeking a controller to be part of its Operations team. As a controller, you will join a strong, successful practice focused on key law firm It operations inslcuding data security, document / records management and risk management technologies.

    Responsibilities

    Accounting

    • Ensure all transactions are properly accounted under GAAP and technical matters are properly documented in accounting memos, including adoption of new accounting standards
    • Provide accurate and timely creation and dissemination of financial management dashboard and reports including, but not limited to, weekly cash flow actuals and forecasts, monthly financial statements, annual internal budgets and external financial statement audit
    • Provide accurate and timely management of the revenue cycle including customer credit, invoicing, accounts receivable management, collections, cash receipts application and client accounting relationship management
    • Provide accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, purchase orders, invoice approval and coding, credit card transaction coding and vendor accounting relationship management
    • Lead process improvement initiatives around payroll and provide accurate oversight regarding payroll distribution and bank funds.
    • Insure compliance with all state and federal tax deposit requirements.
    • Completes treasury management including liaison with the primary lending institution, funds transfer, account management and reconciliation
    • Assure corporate income tax compliance to ensure the accurate and timely completion of all corporate income tax returns taking full advantage of all favorable tax codes
    • Ensure accurate and timely filing of sales and use tax returns with multiple state/local jurisdictions
    • Oversee the monthly/yearly closing of the company books in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
    • Manage intercompany accounting of transactions between three distinct legal entities 

    Finance

    • Oversee all time and expense approvals, commission calculations, performance bonus plans.
    • Manage all corporate insurance, workman's comp policies and vendors
    • Oversee all corporate purchasing activities, licenses, certifications and vendor agreements
    • Oversee and coordinate the annual budgeting process
    • Key firmwide point of contact on all accounting matters 

    Compliance

    • Coordinate with the external CPA firm to complete the annual audit and tax return
    • Develop and maintain relationships with banking, insurance and non-organizational accounting personnel to facilitate financial activities
    • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings  

    Management

    • Accountable for ongoing seamless operations and infrastructure to ensure client and consultant/contract employee needs are being met
    • Work with the management team to develop and implement plans for the operational systems to accommodate the firmwide growth objectives
    • Conduct quarterly reviews, develop staff and engage in the hiring, termination and performance planning of individuals within the accounting group (4+ employees)

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) in accounting, finance and/or business administration
      12+ years progressive experience in accounting or finance roles demonstrating increasing responsibilities
    • Well-developed and professional interpersonal skills and a positive, high-energy attitude
    • Advanced knowledge of GAAP accounting standards
    • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, strong analytical and organizational skills and the ability to prioritize competing responsibilities while still operating with a high degree of accuracy
    • Experience working with senior finance leaders and managing and developing qualified staff while building trusting relationships and partnerships throughout the organization
    • Advanced Microsoft Excel Skills (complex functions & pivot tables)

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation
    • 4+ years public accounting experience
    • Professional services industry experience
    • Hands on payroll experience
    • Proficiency in Sage & NetSuite accounting software
